This past weekend Toronto’s own Allan Rayman came back to the city to finish off what’s been an insanely impressive tour run with 2 back to back sold out shows in his hometown. The first night saw a packed Phoenix Concert Theatre looking a little different than usual – the team decided to set up a stage right in the middle of the crowd which, in my personal opinion, was one of the coolest things I’ve seen at a show, period. Maybe that’s partly (mostly?) the photographer in me saying that because there were endless viewpoints BUT, it was pretty epic. A couple of my friends can vouch for how I felt about it after I’d mentioned to them before the show how I was going to just relax and take it in for once and get all my photos the next night, only to walk away from the venue with 300+ snaps. Apparently I can’t enjoy a show if it’s not through a lens (which I’m sure comes as a surprise to nobody).
The second night was a Danforth Music Hall takeover. It’s hard for me not to enjoy a show at this place because it’s by far my favourite venue in this city aside from the obvious (Massey Hall). Start to finish they brought some crazy energy underneath the signature Allan Rayman single spotlight, with a surprise very special guest appearance by another young Toronto legend and collaborator – Jessie Reyez.
Because this was all so nicely lit, set up, energetically performed, etc, I took way too many photos and I don’t really know what to do with them so – for those interested, here they are below. Make sure to check out Allan’s latest EP “Courtney” if you haven’t already, it’s legitimately been on daily repeat for me since it dropped.
Night One – Phoenix Concert Theatre
Night Two – Danforth Music Hall
